Maths

The level of maths taken by a young person is based off of individual needs. We focus on core numeracy skills alongside specific maths topics.

We focus on a range of texts such as novels and poems alongside creative and formal writing. This develops critical analysis and research skills.

We offer a range of science subjects such as biology and physics. Focusing on the development of scientific inquiry alongside theory.

The subjects we offer depends on staffing however this year we have offered history, geography, tourism and modern studies.

Outdoor Ed

Young people participate in a range of outdoor activity pursuits such as kayaking, gorge walking, archery etc. to increase confidence and teamwork.

In PE  young people participate in personal fitness alongside a range of sport such as table tennis, short tennis and volleyball.

Personal Development

Our personal development subjects change each year but can include Personal Development, Leadership, Volunteering or Employability.

Digital Skills

We focus on core ICT skills individual to each young person such as research, sending emails, using Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.

Horticulture

Pupils work to plant and care for fruit, vegtables and flowers in the garden, whilst learning about the factors which impact growth.

Design and Technology

Pupils participate in design work on the computer using specialist programs alongside practical crafts in the workshop, using wood and plastic.

Studying media such as film and posters allows students to gain a critical understanding of themes are communication techniques.

Pupils choose the instrument they would like to learn and work on this through learning challenging songs whilst considering music theory.

Cooking dishes each week allows pupils to develop essential life skills whilst learning cooking techniques and food hygiene.

Run alongside other FLR bases, Skills Academy gives pupils the opportunity to participate in activities/ subjects that will develop skills for life and work.
